CPS Buses
If your child typically takes the school bus and you would like for him/her to go home a different way, the school must have a written note expressing your change. A phone call to the office to request the change will not be accepted.
If your child is currently assigned to a bus, he/she will be put on the bus at dismissal. This will only be changed if we have received a note expressing your desire to remove your child’s name from the bus route.
Attendance Policy
If your child is absent, please send a note with your child’s name, date of absence, and reason for absence.
Avoidance of early dismissals is appreciated.
Accelerated Reader
Independent reading is a very important element of our day. Your child is given time during the school day to read and is to read for at least 30 minutes each evening. If your child keeps up with his/her daily and nightly reading, he/she should have no problem reaching our goal of earning 15 points each quarter. Each book is assigned a point value depending on the level of difficulty and length. As students read and take tests, the computer tallies the number of points earned. If a student does not earn 15 points at the end of the quarter, he/she does not pass Accelerated Reader. Students are strongly encouraged to read a variety of genres across fiction and nonfiction. We spend a lot of time at the beginning of the year developing strategies for choosing “just right” books. In addition, your child is expected to share his/her reading results with the classroom teacher and parents. Please be on the look out for these result sheets.
REMINDER: Students are permitted to take only one A.R. test the last week of the quarter.
In addition to taking the tests, students are to complete two written responses per quarter. Your child will learn more about these responses in class. Due dates will be assigned and posted on Schoolnotes.com.
