I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer full of fun and relaxation.  Our first day of school will be Tuesday, September 2 and it will begin with our Back To School celebration. This year will be slightly different as we will congregate outside in the park instead of the gymnasium.

Please be on the lookout for the many papers and forms that your child will be bringing home the first week of school.  We know that a lot of information will be coming your way, but please take the time to read and fill out the forms.  Please have your child return the following forms by Friday, September 5:

  • Emergency Information Form
  • Lunch Application
  • Walking Field Trip Permission Form
  • Photography/Video Permission Form
  • Student Code of Conduct Form (this is found in the small Code of Conduct book at the back)

This week in class we will be working on the following:

  • Organization of materials
  • Recording assignments from the board into agendas
  • Strategies for successful homework completion and organization
  • Community Building Activities that include: identifying our differences and commonalities, problem solving skills, and trusting each other.

READING -

  • Read alouds this week include: The Math Curse, by Jon Scieszka, King Midas, by Demi, and Crow Boy, by Taro Yashima
  • Strategies for selecting books for independent reading.  We will review the concept of how we can identify “Easy”, “Just Right”, and “Challenging” books.
  • Establishing expectations during independent reading.

MATH

  • Finding patterns in 100s chart
  • Establishing routine for weekly basic facts quiz
  • Explore the materials and resources we will use in math
  • Begin Unit 1, Geometry:  Students will identify, name, and draw the following:  points, line segments, lines, and rays.

I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday!
