Dear Parents and Students,

Please allow us the opportunity to congratulate students on successfully completing the 3rd grade! We look forward to having all of you in our 4th grade classrooms in the fall.

We realize summer vacation is a time to relax and spend time with your family. However, we encourage all of you to make time for reading, writing, and math during the summer. Here are some suggestions:

Read, Read, Read!

Please visit the public library and choose books that are just right for you. Here is a link

to the Chicago Public Library’s summer program:

Choose books that interest you and challenge you. Ask your parent or the librarian to assist you with your selections.

Journaling

Keep a record of your summer adventures by writing in a journal. Also find time to write creative new stories to practice the skills you learned in 3rd grade.

Math

Basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts will not be covered in 4th grade. This is a skill that should have been mastered in 3rd grade. Please take time this summer to make sure you can recall these facts quickly.

examples:

8 + 9 =

16 - 9 =

7 x 6 =

24 ÷ 4 =

Finally, the most important thing is to enjoy time with your family and stay safe over the summer.

We look forward to meeting you in the fall on Tuesday, September 2!

Sincerely,

Ms. Finke, Room 203

Mrs. Gorman, Room 207
